Dave's Photography and Paintings
I was 9 years old when I found my Dad’s coveted Kodak Duex camera carefully tucked back in the corner of his closet shelf. I loaded the camera, turned the film advance knob to number one and immediately entered a world of imagination that I have lived in, created in, and used in ministry escaped to for over 65 years. In Basics of Photography I found this sentence, “Most people look; few people see.” This changed the way I look at – everything. We rush through life and fail to see the hand of God, the Master Artist on – everything.
In high school, I entered a number of photos in our school’s state Scholastic Competition. When the judging was finished, my sponsoring teacher whispered to me, “David, your photos received over half of the Gold Key Awards allotted to the state of Tennessee.” One photo advanced to the Nationals to earn an Eastman Kodak award. I was learning to do more than look. I was learning to see. Several years ago I began painting canvas images with oils, acrylics and pastels.
